A “Tribute of Don Cornelius” is an acrylic painting that commemorates the successful t.v. host and his founding of Soul Train. Champion chose to highlight Cornelius because of the positive impact he created in the Black community. In addition to illustrating a positive narrative around the African American community, he welcomed and included individuals who originate from various ethnic backgrounds. The implementation of togetherness, celebration, dance, and joy permeated media in the 70s and served as a positive representation for minorities in America.
